The role of the School Nurse
A school nurse is a public health registered nurse (RN) who specializes in school health to support student health needs and promote a healthy school environment for all. The school nurse serves as a bridge between school personnel, family, community, and healthcare providers to advocate for student health and meet the health and educational goals of the student.
Durham Public Schools is served by both DCoDPH and Durham Public Schools nurses. We also provide limited support services for Durham County charter schools.
