Birth

The Durham County Register of Deeds office participates in the North Carolina Database Application for Vital Events (NCDAVE). This is a statewide system which permits the deeds office in each county to issue certified copies of birth records for applicants born in the state of North Carolina from 1971 – present.

Death

May be obtained in person, by mail, or via online request. Certified copies are $10 each. Payment is acceptable by cash, certified check, money order or debit/credit card. A valid identification is required.

Genealogy Search

Computers are available for public use to conduct genealogy research. This is a self-service option available only on-site.

Marriage

Licenses are issued Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm, except holidays by appointment only.

The Register of Deeds office records military separation documents (DD214) in accordance with N.C.G.S. 47-110.

Notary Oath

The Notary Oath is offered to those who have successfully completed the notary public class. The Register of Deeds office does not notarize documents for the public.
