Trauma-Informed Organization Training
What We Do
What is trauma-informed care?
“Trauma results from an event, series of events, or a set of circumstances an individual experiences as physically or emotionally harmful or threatening, which may have lasting adverse effects on the individual’s functioning and mental, physical, social, emotional, or spiritual well-being. Traumatic events may be experienced by an individual, a generation, or an entire community or culture.” (SAMHSA)
Trauma-informed care recognizes that trauma impacts our daily lives and our health and wellbeing. With that knowledge, organizations can work to “create safer environments for their staff and individuals they serve.” (SAMHSA)
What does trauma-informed care look like?
Trauma-informed care is about how we do our work, not what we do necessarily. Trauma-informed care has six principles to guide our work:
- Safety
- Trustworthiness & Transparency
- Collaboration
- Empowerment
- Peer Support
- Humility & Responsiveness
