Mental Health First Aid

What We Do

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course for adults teaches people how to:

  • Recognize signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adults
  • Provide initial help and guide people toward appropriate care
  • Understand the impact of mental health problems and common treatments
  • Build mental health literacy and feel more comfortable managing a crisis
  • Decrease stigmatizing attitudes

Mental Health First Aid

The 8-hour in-person course is interactive and includes:

  • Discussion
  • Learning exercises
  • Activities to practice helping skills.

Classes are offered in community settings and can be hosted by faith, civic and other community organizations.

Audience: Community members, health professionals

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among children and adolescents, ages 12-18. Learners will receive their training as an 8-hour, Instructor-led, in-person course.

Audience: People that work with youth
