About Refugees

Refugees come to the United States for a variety of reasons. The most widely known reasons are to escape from war torn areas or to escape political/personal persecution.

Refugees: Individuals who are escaping an area of conflict. These indivudals apply to United States for refugee status and complete  a screening process for diseases and vaccinations. This process can take up to 10 years.

Asylees: Individuals who are under the protection of the United States Government if they: had a visa to enter the United States or are here without a visa (Parolee). These individuals have asked the government for asylum due to threats to their personal safety.

Class B Immigrants: Individuals who have immigrated into the United States but have a medical condition that must be addressed soon after arrival (i.e. abnormal chest x-ray, pregnancy, hypertension, cancer, HIV).

Class B Refugees: Individuals who are refugees with abnormal medical findings on their pre-departure physical that was completed in their country of origin.

Services provided by the Refugee Health Clinic

Refugees receive communicable disease screenings, immunizations, and an introduction to the health care system in the United States. Services are provided in coordination with area relief agencies, service organizations, and referrlas to local healthcare facilities and providers. Services are provided through the use of interpreters as needed.

Clinic Hours

Refugees are seen by appointment only in Clinic 6.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Interpretation services are utilized to communicate with refugees who do not speak English.
