General information

NC Medicaid covers most health services. It includes doctor visits, check-ups, emergency care, hospital services, maternity and postpartum care, vision and hearing services, prescription drugs, behavioral health, preventive and wellness services, dental/oral health care, devices, and more. There is no monthly fee and copays are never more than $4.

Am I eligible for Medicaid?

You must be a US Citizen or provide proof of eligible immigration status unless you are only applying for emergency services.

You must live in North Carolina and provide proof of residency.

You must have a social security number or have applied for one.

Income and resource limits vary depending on the Medicaid Program and eligibility.

How do I complete an application for Medicaid?
  1. Apply via EPASS using the following:

  4. Apply in person or pick up a paper application at:

Hours of operation: 7:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m.
Paper applications can be dropped off at the agency drop boxes. Drop boxes are located both inside and outside of the building.

How do I complete a recertification?
  1. You can complete recertification EPASS using https://epass.nc.gov/.
  2. Mailed to the office.
  3. Dropped off at the Human Services Building using the DSS drop boxes located outside and inside of the building.
  4. Dropped off at Lobby 28 on the 2nd floor of the Human Services building.

Transportation Services

Non Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) provides transportation to doctors' offices, hospitals, dialysis centers, dental offices and all other health-related appointments for persons in need. Durham County residents who have Medicaid and who have no other means of transportation receive free transportation to medical appointments.
