Anyone who suspects a child is being abused, neglected, and/or dependent should report this to Durham County Social Services.

Receive reports of alleged abuse, neglect and dependency
- To make a report, call the Intake hotline on 919-560-8424, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- After hours, on weekends, or holidays call the Durham Police Department non-emergency number at 919-560-4600 and ask for the on-call Social Worker
Types of Reports
- Investigative with response time of 24 hours
- Physical Abuse
- Sexual Abuse
- Serious Neglect
- Family Assessment with response time of 72 hours
- Neglect
- Dependency
North Carolina’s report law requires “any person or institution who has a cause to suspect that any juvenile is abuse, neglected or dependent,
or has died as a result of maltreatment” to make a report to the County Department of Social Services.

After Hours, weekends & holidays and ask for the on-call Social Worker to make a CPS Report and/or report concerns regarding a youth in DSS Custody.
