Anyone who suspects a child is being abused, neglected, and/or dependent should report this to Durham County Social Services.

CPS Intake

Receive reports of alleged abuse, neglect and dependency

  • To make a report, call the Intake hotline on 919-560-8424, Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • After hours, on weekends, or holidays call the Durham Police Department non-emergency number at 919-560-4600 and ask for the on-call Social Worker

 

Types of Reports

  • Investigative with response time of 24 hours
    • Physical Abuse
    • Sexual Abuse
    • Serious Neglect
  • Family Assessment with response time of 72 hours
    • Neglect
    • Dependency

North Carolina’s report law requires “any person or institution who has a cause to suspect that any juvenile is abuse, neglected or dependent,

As defined in NCGS 7B-10

or has died as a result of maltreatment” to make a report to the County Department of Social Services.

How to Make a Report?

Call the report line at 919-560-8424
Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Call the non-emergency number 919-560-4600
After Hours, weekends & holidays and ask for the on-call Social Worker to make a CPS Report and/or report concerns regarding a youth in DSS Custody.

Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
