Durham County Social Services Division of Aging and Adult Services offers a variety of in-home and community-based programs and services to seniors, adults with disabilities and their families.

Our Division’s strategic plan is to help Durham residents achieve self-sufficiency, safety, health, and independence. The goal is to provide seniors and adults with the security they need to remain safe in the community while ensuring the highest quality of life for those residing in adult and family care homes in Durham County.

Adult Day/Health Care Programs

Adult Day Care programs provide services to the aged and disabled in a community group setting.

In Home Aide and Home Delivered Meals Services may help you remain safely in your home. If you are elderly and/or a disabled adult who is unable to prepare meals, and/or need assistance with personal care tasks, this may be the help you are seeking.

Adult Protective Services

Adult Protective Services (APS) complete thorough evaluations of alleged abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation of elderly/disabled adults. When the need for protective services is found, APS provides services to improve the outcomes for the client or eliminate maltreatment.

Crisis Services provides short-term financial assistance for adults who need help to meet their essential needs.

HOPWA provides housing assistance and related supportive services for low- income persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
