Individuals and families struggling to pay their rent and who have received a past-due notice, rent demand letter, or eviction notice can apply for assistance through the county's various rental assistance programs.

Residency Requirements
- Applicants must reside in Durham County.
- Proof of residency is required (e.g., utility bills, lease agreements).
Income Loss
- The applicant must have experienced a sudden loss of income.
Direct Impact on Rent
- Rental arrears must be directly linked to the income loss.
Household Sustainability
- The household should have stable monthly income that exceeds expenses.
- Exception: This requirement is waived for Eviction Diversion applicants who lost their job or income source within 30 days of applying.
Income Limits
- Total household monthly gross income must align with the program's Federal Poverty Level guidelines (150%-200% of FPL) depending on which program the applicant is being assessed for
Rental Arrears
- Applicants must be at least two months behind on rent or actively involved in eviction court proceedings.
