Soil testing is a crucial step in understanding the health of your soil. The test results will let you know what nutrients your soil has or needs. Proper fertilization application has a multitude of benefits including improved soil fertility and reduced nutrient pollution.
Soil testing is available through NC Cooperative Extension.

What does it cost?
Soil test analysis is free between April 1st and November 30th.
A fee of $4 per sample is charged for each test submitted between December 1st and March 31st.
Where can I get a test kit?
Testing kits can be picked up from any Cooperative Extension Center. The Durham County office is located at 721 Foster Street, Durham, NC 27701.
Can a Durham Soil and Water staff member collect soil samples?
Durham Soil and Water staff are not available to collect soil samples or submit them. Please bring all soil samples to the NC Cooperative Extention office.
