Conservation Education Teacher of the Year

This award celebrates an outstanding conservation educator in Durham County. Open to all Elementary, Middle and High School teachers in Durham County who have incorporated conservation and environmental education into their classroom curriculum. 

Award winners are honored at our annual Awards Banquet, and their applications are submitted to the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. Winners at the state level recieve a plaque and cash award.

Nominate yourself or an outstanding teacher you know.

Applications are due by 5 PM on April 5, 2025.

Urban Conservationist of the Year

The Urban Conservationist of the Year award recognizes an individual, organization, or corporation responsible for a conservation project in an urban setting.

The award winner will be honored at our Annual Awards Banquet.

Durham County Outstanding Conservation Farm Family of the Year

This award is presented to farmers or farm families who take the initiative to implement sound, innovative, and cost-effective conservation techniques and actively engage in conservation education. 

The award winner is honored at our annual Farmer Appreciation Dinner.

Farm Families are nominated by the District Board and staff. Farm Families who win at the county level go on to compete at the area, regional, and state level.

Durham County Heritage Hall of Fame Award

The Durham County Farm Heritage Hall of Fame Award recognizes individuals of the past and/or present, who through agriculture have made or continue to make our county and state a better place to live and work.

The award winner is honored at our annual Farmer Appreciation Dinner.

Selections each year will be made by the Durham Co. Farm Heritage Hall of Fame Committee. The decision of the judges shall be final and is usually completed in mid-February each year, and letters are sent to all applicants. Applicants not selected are retained for review the next year(s) and can be resubmitted with greater detail if desired.
