Treatment Services

About Treatment Services

The Justice Services Department offers mental health and substance use disorder treatment options in the jail as well as outpatient services. Jail Mental Health Clinicians and a case manager located in the Durham County Detention Center provide mental health screenings of identified detainees to determine their need for services in the jail and after release. The team provides consultation, monthly chronic care visits, and discharge planning to mentally ill detainees seven days a week.

Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Services are provided to justice involved individuals in the Detention Center by the STARR Program and in an outpatient setting by the Second Chance Program.  The programs are designed to increase personal motivation to obtain and maintain a drug-free lifestyle through group and individual treatment sessions and a person centered treatment plan.
