Familiar Faces Initiative
About the Program
Durham Familiar Faces Initiative (DFFI) is a project that is aimed towards identifying frequent users of emergency or crisis services, the causes of the high use and overuse of these services, and connecting familiar faces to non-emergency services. Typically, familiar faces are defined as individuals who routinely cycle through justice services (detention facilities and courts), hospitals, homeless shelters, and other crisis services. The reasons for high use include inability to find permanent housing, employment, health care, substance use treatment, or mental health treatment. DFFI strives to identify challenges, remove barriers, and connect high utilizers with services that will reduce use of crisis services to meet routine and ongoing health and other needs
