Volunteering and Events
Volunteers play an integral role in stewarding the County’s Open Space lands by removing litter, managing invasive species, and collecting scientific data. Check out our Activate Good page to view upcoming workdays.
We’re lucky to get help from schools, places of worship, Scout troops, companies, and other local groups. If you’re interested in scheduling a private workday for your group, contact David Bradley, Open Space Specialist, at dabradley@dconc.gov.
Become an Open Space Steward
Open Space Stewards volunteer to regularly monitor the County’s Open Space trails and properties. These volunteers commit to monitoring a specific trail or property at least once a month, reporting any issues that pose risks to guests or the site’s natural and cultural resources. Stewards may also assist with other projects, including citizen science, invasive species management, trail maintenance, and events.
If you’re interested in becoming an Open Space Steward, contact David Bradley, Open Space Specialist, at dabradley@dconc.gov or (919) 943-3997.
