The Utilities Division Compliance Section oversees the County's Pretreatment and Fats, Oil, & Grease (FOG) programs. The objective is to prevent the introduction of pollutants into the collection system that may cause pass-through, interference, or adverse impacts to the POTW, staff, the environment, and to promote the beneficial reuse of biosolids.

The Durham County Sewer Use Ordinance (SUO) provides the legal authority to implement the Pretreatment Program and is required by Federal and State regulations.
