Durham, N.C. – The March 2026 episode of the “In Touch with Durham County” show from the Durham County Public Information Office has premiered focusing on two topics and available resources that directly impact the community: mental health and the environment. In our latest episode, host Deborah Craig-Ray, Durham County Chief Communications Officer, welcomes Willa Robinson Allen, Chronic Disease & Injury Prevention Program Manager for Durham County Department of Public Health, and Elicia Senff, the County’s Soil and Water Educational Outreach Coordinator.
Watch it on our YouTube channel here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJa9SXZz2xk.
The goal of each episode is to have important conversations with our Durham County Government staff, elected officials, and community partners to keep residents informed about the latest happenings, programs, and services. The show is available to watch on the DCo YouTube channel (subscribe here); as well as on the Durham County Government website and the Durham Television Network.
In conversation with veteran county employee Robinson Allen, the segment discusses the recent listing of mental health as one of the County’s Community Health Assessment's top health priorities. Robinson Allen provides information on the Public Health Department’s five evidence-based programs and resources that are available to Durham County residents. This includes the Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, or ASIST, a free, eight-hour course, stress management workshops and two mental health first-aid programs—the Adult Mental Health First Aid and the Youth Mental Health First Aid, which help individuals recognize crisis signs and provide ways for people to get help immediately.
Second segment guest Senff, works with the primary and secondary school population of children and youth from preK-12, teaching them about the environment, agriculture and farming. During the show, she gives details on upcoming and ongoing programs with Durham County Soil and Water Conservation District, such as the annual K-2nd-grade Bookmark Contest, and Envirothon, a natural resource education program for middle and high school students, and summer programs. Additionally, applications are currently open for the Resource Conservation Workshop, a weeklong summer program for high school students hosted on the campus of NC State University.
We hope you explore this month’s show!
