One of the fastest growing waste streams in the world is computer and electronic waste or e-waste. This is due to rapidly changing technology and innovation in the manufacturing of items such as computers, cell phones, televisions, and other electronic devices.

Durham County residents have several options when it comes to the disposal of computers and e-waste:

Reuse or Donation
With the rapid proliferation of new technology when it comes to computers, televisions, and cell phones often times the choice to dispose of an item is based solely on having a newer and improved version.  Contact a local thrift store and find out if your item can be donated.

Recycling
Non-working and outdated e-waste, especially computers and accessories should be recycled. Contact the equipment manufacturer for take back/collection program details.

You can also bring your non-working items to the City of Durham’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Center located at 2115 E. Club Boulevard in Durham. For more information please call 919-560-1200.
