Special Projects
Thanks to Durham County Government’s successful implementation of a strong culture of innovation, we have yielded special projects displaying our organizations’ value of new trends, technology, and process improvement.
The Durham County Public Information Office is occasionally tasked to address needs or challenges experienced by any of the County’s 30+ departments. In response, the PIO team produces a range of resources to support the coordination, development, and deployment solution-oriented special projects.
Below we highlight a few current projects.
Website Redesign Projects
Durham County’s previous website served the community well, however, after being used for nearly a decade it was time for a fresh look and new features.
Durham County Initiated a 24-month process to modernize the County’s website to make it more visitor friendly. The goal for the modernized website is to make it more inviting and helpful for the community by:
- Creating of a visually appealing
- Creating a visually appealing website that's easy to use.
- Improving the site navigation and making searches on the site more visitor-friendly
- Enhancing the website's accessibility for all visitors to the site.
- Design it to work well on mobile devices, tablets, and laptops.
Neighborhood College
Durham City-County Neighborhood College is a unique educational program offered by Durham City and County governments. It includes a series of classes that will provide information on key City and County services. Participants will have a chance to meet and interact with City and County staff and learn things about government that they've always wanted to know but didn't know whom to ask!
Durham Neighborhood College offers one session each year.

National County Government Month
National County Government Month (NCGM), held each April, is an annual celebration of county government. Since 1991, the National Association of Counties has encouraged counties to actively promote county roles and responsibilities in serving residents.
NCGM is an excellent opportunity for Durham County to highlight effective or innovative county programs and raise public awareness of services provided to the community.
