New American Affairs Coordinator

The Durham County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension supports Durham County and the City of Durham’s efforts in the area of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs. Home to more than 45,000 people who originate from other countries, Durham County seeks to support and empower our immigrant and refugee communities to successfully integrate into Durham’s civic, economic, and cultural life. Kokou Nayo is a strategic leaders advancing immigrant and refugee integration as Durham's City-County New American Affairs Corodinator. He drives cross-sector initiatives that strengthen civic, economic, and cultural inclusion, leveraging deep expertise in policy, advocacy, and coalition-building. Formerly a Refugee Community Organizer with Church World Service, Nayo led transformative community engagement and leadership development across North Carolina. Appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to the NC FInancial Literacy Council, he amplifies immigrant and refugee voices at the state level. Nayo holds a Master's in Community Management and Policy Practice from UNC-Chapel Hill and brings over a decase of experience shaping equitable systems. Originally from Togo, he now calls Durham home.
