Redwood Convenience Site to Close April 1 for Renovation Project

Site will temporarily close for approximately one year
March 24, 2026

Durham, N.C. – Durham County is beginning the construction phase to upgrade and modernize the Redwood Convenience Site. To accommodate this work, the Redwood Convenience Site, located at 100 Electra Road, will be closed to the public beginning Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and will remain closed until renovations are complete.

During the closure, residents of unincorporated Durham County who typically use the Redwood location are encouraged to visit one of the County’s two other convenience sites:

  • Parkwood Convenience Site – 5928 Highway 55
  • Northern Convenience Site – 11894 N. Roxboro Road

Both the Parkwood and Northern Durham Convenience Sites will operate under the following hours during the Redwood closure:

  • Monday–Friday: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Renovations at the Redwood Convenience Site are expected to take approximately one year. Once complete, the updated facility will offer a larger, safer, and more efficient space designed to meet the growing needs of residents in the southern part of the County.

In 2023, Durham County was awarded $3.3 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) Grant to support the completion of this project.
