Durham, N.C. – The December 2025 episode of the “In Touch with Durham County” show from the Durham County Public Information Office is here with important information for our community. On our latest episode, host Deborah Craig-Ray, the Durham County Chief Communications Officer, welcomes Durham County Budget and Management Services Director Keith Lane and Economic Development Coordinator Sabria Futrell.

The goal for each episode is to have great conversations with our Durham County Government staff, elected officials, and community partners to provide residents with the most up-to-date happenings, programs, and services. The show is available to watch on the DCo YouTube channel (subscribe here); as well as on the Durham County Government website and the Durham Television Network.

Lane has been Budget Director for the county for over a decade. He comes to our show to talk about the now over $1 billion budget and the process that goes behind the scenes in making sure the Commissioners deliver a balanced one each year. Lane also talks about how his staff help departments manage their budget requests, the maintenance of the Durham County Capital Improvement Plan, and how changes at the state and federal level impact Durham County’s budget locally.

Futrell visits our set for the first time to chat about what the mission of our Economic Development Department is and how they achieve their goals. Some of the topics she touches on include the recruitment of new businesses to our community, retaining current businesses, and workforce development. She also discusses the latest cohort of Innovate Durham – a partnership with local entrepreneurs and businesses that see them partner with Durham County Government. It allows them to apply their innovations and turn local government into a laboratory for startups and entrepreneurs over the course of a 16-week program.
