Durham Seeks Resident Feedback to Finalize Top Bike + Walk Projects

Feedback will narrow 150 proposed improvements to 75 priority projects; online map and fall events open through October 31
September 24, 2025

DURHAM, N.C. – The City of Durham and Durham County are asking residents to help shape the future of safer walking and biking.

After receiving nearly 2,000 comments earlier this year during the first phase of this project, transportation staff have drafted 150 possible projects for sidewalks, bike lanes, and intersection improvements. Now, that list must be narrowed to 75 priority projects that will be included in the updated Bike + Walk Plan.

Through October 31, residents can provide feedback online or at upcoming community events. Transportation staff will be available to answer questions and gather input at in-person sessions throughout the fall. Participants who complete a survey at these events will also be entered into a drawing for a $200 gift card.

Projects under consideration include:

  • Sidewalk and bike corridor connections
  • Intersection safety upgrades
  • “Micro-gap” projects — short sidewalk or bike facility links of less than 1,000 feet
