The goal for each episode is to have great conversations with our Durham County Government staff, elected officials, and community partners to provide residents with the most up-to-date happenings, programs, and services. The show is available to watch on the DCo YouTube channel (subscribe here); as well as on the Durham County Government website and the Durham Television Network.
Veteran services is a regular topic on our show, and Crooms is excited to talk about all of the great things going on in November from his office as well as the services that the DCo Veteran Services team helps provide to Durham County’s veteran community. First off in November, is Operation Green Light, which invites government buildings, local businesses, and residents of Durham County shine a green light to raise awareness of local, state, and federal services available for veterans and their families. These vital resources are sometimes not known about by those in need.
Next, Durham County will recognize Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11th; however, the day before the Veteran Services Department will hold Durham County’s 14th annual Veterans Day Recognition and Celebration event. Free and open to everyone, the theme of this year’s event will be “Loyalty and Service: Honoring All Who Served.” Crooms invites the Durham County community to the Human Services Building, 414 E. Main Street, on November 10 for the event at 11 a.m.
In segment two, Stewart visits the show for the first time. She talks about National Adoption Month, and its theme of “Honoring Youth: Strengthening Pathways for Lasting Bonds.” She highlights the importance of lifelong support systems for youth in care and recruiting families that reflect their backgrounds and needs.
Stewart talks about the process of finding foster care families, and what is involved in becoming one. She also talks about the length of time that Durham County children can wait for adoption, and how many are waiting for adoption currently.
