Commissioner meetings

The public is welcome to attend Board meetings. Residents may attend meetings in person, via Zoom, or watch live online and on DTN. There is no sign-up sheet or request form to attend meetings, however, it is important to note that there are limited seating options. 

A low-capacity overflow seating area is provided in the lobby on the second floor of the Administration Building. Individuals seated in the lobby can view the meeting on screens.

While social distancing will be established with seat arrangements, in-person attendees are reminded of the benefits of masking while in indoor spaces populated by others. Residents who wish to observe meetings are encouraged to continue using the virtual option and watch live on the County’s website.

Joining Meetings Virtually

The information for joining the meeting virtually is as follows:

Residents may deliver comments on agenda items for the meeting in person or virtually.

In-Person Speaking Option

  • Regular Sessions: All speakers must give their full name and address to give public comments and complete the Public Comments (Agenda Items only) form and submit it to the Clerk prior to the start of the meeting to speak before the Board. Public Comment forms are also provided at the meeting. Rules for Public Comment on Agenda Items can be found here.
  • Work Sessions: All speakers must give their full name and address to give citizen comments and complete the Citizen Comments form and submit it to the Clerk prior to the start of the meeting to speak before the Board. Citizen Comment forms are also provided at the meeting. Rules for Citizen Comments can be found here.

Hybrid Speaking Option

  • All speakers must submit their full name and address via email or telephone to the Clerk to the Board at clerk@dconc.gov or 919-560-0025. These submissions must be completed by 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 9th.
  • All virtual participants will be muted upon entry to the meeting. If they are signed up to speak, they will be unmuted individually by the Clerk’s office when it is their turn to speak.

Access Meetings Live on Durham Television Network

The virtual option aligns with social distancing requirements which ensure the safety of citizens who wish to participate as well as Board members and Durham County Government staff. Citizens who wish to view the BOCC meeting can watch rebroadcasts on the Durham Television Network, which is available on AT&T U-verse channel 99, Spectrum channel 8, and Frontier Communications channel 70. The meeting will also be streamed live on the County’s website and on the County’s YouTube Channel.

  • Disruption to Food & Nutrition Benefits – The Durham County Department of Social Services has received notices from state and federal agencies that as government shutdown continues, there will be a disruption in food and nutrition benefits. We know how important these benefits are to you and your family. DCoDSS will continue to process applications and recertifications as normal. The NCDHHS has announced that partial November SNAP benefits will be disbursed and it will continue to have updates on their website at www.ncdhhs.gov/fns.

  • Food Resources Website – Durham County Government is committed to developing a just food system that is better for the planet and works to end food insecurity. The Durham Food Security Coordinator, the departments of Social Services, Public Health and Public Information have created a webpage with information on food security and resources at https://dconc.gov/Public-Information/SNAP-Update. This page includes links to food pantries, the Durham Food Resource Map, community organizations who can provide food or that residents may donate to, the Durham Public Schools’ free meals program for all students, tips on donations, and more.

  • Most DCo Offices to Close for Veterans Day – Most Durham County Government offices will close in observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. All offices will reopen with normal hours on Wednesday, Nov. 12. Read about impacts on services at www.dconc.gov.

  • Open Space Matching Grant Deadline on Nov. 12 – The Durham County Open Space Matching Grant Program is accepting applications for the 2025-2026 cycle until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12. The program is designed to assist organizations, non-profits, and residents in Durham County, both inside and outside the city limits, in preserving open space lands and promoting new or improved recreational opportunities for citizens of Durham County.   • Watch November “In Touch with Durham County” Show – The November edition of the “In Touch with Durham County” show features Veteran Services Supervisor Jonathan Crooms and Department of Social Services Child Welfare Social Worker Dana Stewart to the show.   • 13th Annual Welcome Baby Winter Coat Drive – The Welcome Baby program out of the Durham Cooperative Extension is hosting its 13th annual coat drive. Last year’s event collected and distributed a record-breaking 1,427 coats that benefited Durham County youth. The Welcome Baby team is looking to top that number this year and asks community members to donate gently used and new children’s coats, hats, and scarves in sizes newborn to 8 years. This year’s event will run from Monday, November 17, 2025, until Friday, January 9, 2026.   • Feedback Wanted for Durham Bus Rapid Transit Vision Plan – The Durham County Transportation Department is seeking community input on the development of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Vision Plan to ensure it reflects local priorities.   • DCoDPH Offers Updated COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments – The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) is now offering appointments for updated Moderna COVID-19 vaccines (2025-2026 formula) for all people age six months and older. Due to limited vaccine supply, vaccinations are available by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling 919-560-7608.
