BULLS Academies
Program Overview
BULLS is a Durham initiative that assists young residents (18-25) in earning industry-specific BioWork certifications. This certification is a key credential for entry-level employment in biopharma manufacturing, which translates to the production of vaccines and drugs that improve health and save lives. Students pursue the 5-month BioWork certification under the instruction and guidance of Durham Tech faculty, counselors, and support staff. To ensure that students are thriving in the program, Made in Durham extends wraparound support to the students through success coaching and individualized assistance. The program also recognizes there are many financial obstacles that would prevent students from enrolling or succeeding in the program and provides stipends as a result. To date, Durham County has invested $4 million in the BULLS Academy spanning between FY22-26, including a $3 million American Rescue Plan award to scale the BioWork coursework and certifications.
