Temporary Hold on Development in Slater Road LS Basin

NOTIFICATION
Temporary Hold on Projects within Slater Road Lift Station Basin
Durham County Utilities is placing a temporary hold on all new development and redevelopment within the Slater Road Lift Station basin. This lift station was last upgraded in 2018. However, given the robust development within this area, it has been determined that the current lift station does not have the capacity to sustain continued growth. The County has been working with our partners to explore the possibility of interim solutions to provide additional capacity. The engineering analysis determined there are no cost-effective strategies available to provide interim capacity. Therefore, a new lift station is required to provide additional service to this area. Durham County has been continuously working towards a new station in its long-range planning and has already purchased land to support this work. A new lift station is anticipated to be completed in approximately 2 to 3 years. However, it is important to note there are many factors, such as the availability of custom materials, that may impact the actual completion date. See the attached map to identify the geographic area impacted by this temporary hold.
What projects will be impacted by this hold?
All projects within the Slater Road Lift Station basin that do not already have system capacity reserved will be affected. System capacity is reserved after construction documents are submitted to the County. Projects currently within construction plan review qualify as having system capacity reservation.
Projects that do not have system capacity reserved include the following: new projects, projects currently in Site Plan review, projects that have Site Plan approval which have not submitted Construction Documents to the County, and existing customer capacity increases.
How will you know when the hold is lifted?
Durham County Utilities will issue biannual Letters to Industry with updates on the progress of the new lift station. We thank you for your patience as we continue to work to provide additional capacity and service to the Slater Road sewerage basin.
The provisions detailed herein are effective immediately. If you have any questions relating to this notification, please contact:
