DURHAM, NC (Thursday, May 8, 2025) – Today, at approximately 12:33 p.m., a Durham County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer (SRO) witnessed a disagreement among multiple students at Lowe’s Grove Middle School. It was reported that one of the students was in possession of a firearm. The school was placed on lockdown.  The SRO separated the individuals and conducted a search, locating a weapon in the possession of a 13-year-old male.  Multiple units from the Sheriff’s Office and Durham Police responded to assist.

A secure custody order has been obtained for the teen. Juvenile petitions will be filed on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a minor and possession of a firearm on campus.
