Public Hearing Scheduled for Final Durham County Transit Plan Report

Public hearing on report to be held during May 8, 2023 BOCC meeting
April 26, 2023

Durham, N.C. - The final Durham County Transit Plan report, initially released for public comment on December 14, 2022, will be presented for approval by the Durham Board of County Commissioners, Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organization (DCHC MPO), and the GoTriangle Board of Trustees in May and June 2023.

The plan is the result of an extensive public engagement effort and coordination between local and regional organizations. It focuses on improving the current bus system, providing a better experience at bus stops and stations, connecting the region with quick and reliable service, and implementing improvements quickly. Bus rider feedback was continuously sought and incorporated into the priorities of the plan. More frequent and reliable bus service, as well as more bus service at all times of the day and days of the week was the top priority of Durham residents, and the plan invests more than seventy percent of the funding towards local and regional bus projects. The plan also provides a financial commitment to connecting Durham to the region through rail or bus rapid transit projects. A study of bus rapid transit is proposed to begin later this year.

Residents interested in reviewing the final plan document can do so at https://engagedurham.com/101/Durham-Transit-Plan.

The public comment period is closing on May 1, 2023, and a public hearing will be held on May 8, 2023, at the Durham County Board of Commissioners Regular Session meeting at 7 p.m. inside Commissioners Chambers, Administration I Building, 200 E. Main St. Feedback can be sent to: publicinformation@dchcmpo.org

Approval of the plan will be scheduled for the May and June meetings of the Durham Board of County Commissioners, DCHC MPO Board, and GoTriangle Board of Trustees.
