Durham opioid settlement community meeting to be held June 4

Durham, N.C. — Durham County residents are invited to learn more about Durham’s National Opioid Settlement (NOS) funds and share their feedback during the upcoming Opioid Settlement Annual Community Meeting on Thursday, June 4, 2026. The community meeting will take place 5:30-7:00PM in the Durham Board of Commissioners Chambers, 200 E. Main Street, Durham, NC 27701. The event will also be live-streamed on the Durham County Department of Public Health YouTube channel.  

Durham County is expected to receive nearly $22 million total in NOS funds from 2022 through 2038. Detailed information about the NOS funding allocations and payment schedule is available here. Funding will provide public services needed to address the ongoing opioid epidemic affecting the Durham community.  

“The opioid settlement funds provide Durham County with a unique opportunity to continue to invest in strategies that save lives, support recovery, and strengthen our response to the opioid crisis,” said Jaeson Smith, Opioid Settlement Manager. “This meeting is an opportunity for everyone in Durham to learn how these funds are being used, share their feedback, and help shape investments that support prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts across Durham County.” 

This interactive town hall will include updates on funding priorities, ongoing settlement-funded programs, and plans for the future. Speakers will include:

  • Shelisa Howard-Martinez, Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee Panelist 
  • Brittany Price, Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee Panelist
