Durham, N.C. – Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on both Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28, 2025. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Monday, December 1.

Durham County General Services

Convenience Sites

The Durham County General Services Department will close the Northern Durham and Redwood Convenience Sites on Thursday, November 27, and Saturday, November 29. The two sites will be open on Friday, November 28. The Parkwood Convenience Site will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28. On Saturday, November 29, the Parkwood Convenience Site will follow its regular schedule and remain closed. All three sites will return to their regular schedules on Monday, December 1.

Roadside Recycling

The Durham County roadside recycling schedule for customers normally serviced on Thursday, November 27 will have their collection on Saturday, November 29. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the “Durham County Recycles” mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store or Android devices in the Google Play Store.

Durham County Sheriff

Durham County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 and will reopen on Monday, December 2.

Durham County Library

All Durham County Library locations will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. Locations will return to normal operating hours on Saturday, November 29.

Durham County Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) will follow the Durham County Government Thanksgiving holiday closing schedule and close both Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 and reopen on Monday, December 1.

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services

On November 27 and 28, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the Thanksgiving holiday. Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect.

Durham County Cooperative Extension

The Durham County Cooperative Extension will be closed on November 27-28 for Thanksgiving. All programs which usually operate on Fridays will not be held, including the Welcome Baby Giving Closet. The Extension will reopen with normal business hours on Monday, December 1.
