May 16, 2025

Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Cooperative Extension invites all Durham residents to come out and celebrate World Hunger Day with a large outdoor event on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. World Hunger Day Durham, NC will be held at Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street with the theme of “Strong Food Systems, Strong Community.”

World Hunger Day Durham, NC is the cooperative effort of many Durham County Government departments, End Hunger Durham, and multiple community organizations that brings together all parts of the Durham County food system for a day filled with learning, fun, and food. It is free and open to the public.

The event aims to raise awareness of food insecurity experienced in the community, as well as to highlight the amazing work being done to support our residents and create a more fair and equitable food system. Attendees will celebrate all that food means with friendship, music, arts, and entertainment for the entire family, including food trucks, giveaways, free snacks, a bounce house, and more.

“Durham’s World Hunger Day is an opportunity to recognize the exceptional efforts of the Durham community to support their neighbors experiencing food insecurity,” said Raina Goldstein Bunnag, Durham County Food Security Coordinator. “We’re excited to host this event for the fourth year with our partners. The community looks forward to this joyful day as a chance to enjoy good food, connect with friends, and learn about important resources.  We’re also asking for community members to help us feed our fellow neighbors and donate to the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Fund to get access to a meal that day.”
