Local Organizations Join Forces for Second World Hunger Day Event in Durham

Family-friendly event at Durham Central Park to raise awareness about food insecurity in Durham County, share resources, and celebrate all that food means
May 17, 2023

Durham, N.C. - In recognition of World Hunger Day, Durham residents are invited to celebrate this important day on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The large outdoor event will be held at Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street.

World Hunger Day Durham aims to raise awareness of food insecurity experienced in the community, as well as to highlight the amazing work being done to support residents and create a more fair and equitable food system. Attendees will celebrate all that food means with friendship, music, arts, and entertainment for the entire family, including food trucks, giveaways, free snacks, a bounce house, and more.

"Durham's 2022 World Hunger Day event was a great success! Folks made connections to resources and each other, learned about food insecurity, and had fun." said Durham County Food Security Coordinator Mary Oxendine. "We are building on that foundation to grow the event, increase engagement, and further catalyze connections."

Durham County has partnered with The Underground Collective to curate this year's event.

World Hunger Day Durham, open to all the public and is free to attend, is the vision and cooperative effort of the following organizations:
