Jacobs Again Secures a Presidential Appointment to Leadership Roles within the National Association of Counties

August 17, 2026

Durham, N.C. – Durham County Board of Commissioners member Wendy Jacobs was recently appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the Juvenile Justice Subcommittee of the Justice and Public Safety Committee and as a member of the Mid-Size County Caucus (MCC) for the National Association of Counties (NACo). Additionally, she was reappointed as Vice Chair of the Immigration Advisory Council.

Jacobs was appointed by incoming NACo President George Dunlap of Mecklenburg County immediately following the organization’s annual meeting July 17-20 in Orleans Parish/New Orleans, La.

In appointing Jacobs, President Dunlap added, “You were selected because of your commitment and dedication to NACo. Our strength is in our members, and your active involvement and leadership ensures that we continue to be the voice of America’s counties.”

“I am honored to be appointed by our new NACo President George Dunlap (Member of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners!) to these leadership roles, which allow me to serve at the national level, addressing local issues I care deeply about and helping me be more effective in my role as a Durham County Commissioner”, said Jacobs.

“As a Vice Chair of the Juvenile Justice Subcommittee of the Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee, I will continue to focus on initiatives diverting our youth and those suffering from mental illness and substance use disorder from our criminal justice system at the national level and here in Durham County.

My role as a Vice Chair of the Advisory Council on Immigration and Intergovernmental Affairs allows me the opportunity to be in direct contact with Federal Immigration and Refugee decision makers while also advocating for policies supporting our Durham Refugee and Immigrant community alongside county commissioners from across our country.

I am also thrilled to be appointed to the new Mid-Size County Caucus. At our recent national convening, we discussed shared challenges like hyperscale data centers and legislation limiting local property tax revenues. I am already bringing what I learned back to Durham County!”

NACo is the national organization that brings together America’s 3,069 county governments to advance the shared vision of healthy, vibrant, and safe communities. NACo represents nearly 40,000 county elected officials and over 3.6million county employees, providing policy advocacy, leadership development, civic engagement, and guidance on key county government issues.
