Durham Opioid Settlement Community Meeting to be held June 5

Durham, N.C. — Durham County residents will have an opportunity to learn more about Durham’s use of National Opioid Settlement (NOS) funds and share their feedback during the annual Opioid Settlement Community Meeting next Thursday, June 5, 5:30-7:00PM in the Durham County Board of Commissioners Chambers, 200 E. Main Street, Durham, NC, second floor. The event will also be live-streamed via Zoom.
Durham County is expected to receive nearly $22 million in opioid settlement funds from 2022 through 2038. Detailed information about the NOS funding allocations and payment schedule is available here. Funding will provide public services needed to address the ongoing opioid epidemic affecting the Durham community.
This interactive town hall will include updates from speakers from the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) and Duke University Hospital on funding priorities, ongoing settlement-funded programs, and plans for the future. Speakers will include:
- Jaeson Smith, Opioid Settlement Program Manager, DCoDPH
- Morgan Culver, Harm Reduction Coordinator, DCoDPH
- Dennis Hamlet, Public Health Education Program Manager, DCoDPH
- Lacie Scofield, Overdose Prevention and Response Projects Manager, DCoDPH
- Dr. Anjni Patel Joyner, Emergency Medicine Specialist, Duke University Hospital
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their feedback, and help identify potential funding priorities for the future. A live streaming option will be available via Zoom.
