Durham Hosts New Unified Development Ordinance Open Houses

UDO Regulates Land Development in Durham
January 29, 2024

DURHAM, N.C. - If you're interested in the rules that regulate how land development occurs in Durham, now is the time to give your input on the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) rewrite that's underway.

The Durham City-County Planning Department and its team of consultants, led by Code Studio, are hosting two open houses in February to capture input from residents and stakeholders for use in creating a new UDO that will modernize how development takes place.

Open Houses

Thursday, February 8 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Durham County Administration Building II, Room 466

201 E. Main St., 4th Floor

Thursday, February 8 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Campus Hill Recreation Center

2000 S. Alston Ave.

The UDO re-write comes after the successful adoption of the new Comprehensive Plan by the Durham City Council and Durham County Board of Commissioners in late 2023. One way to implement the actions in the Comprehensive Plan is the UDO, which is a legally binding set of rules that developers and property owners must follow that regulates how physical development of land is allowed in Durham.

As this process moves forward over the next year-and-a-half, residents can stay informed by visiting the Engage Durham website, subscribing to the Engage Durham newsletter, or by emailing the UDO project team.
