Durham Extension to Host USDA Outreach Meeting for Underserved Farmers and Landowners

Free workshop to be held on Jan. 28 at 11 a.m.
January 16, 2025

Durham, N.C. - The Durham County Cooperative Extension is hosting a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Resource Outreach Meeting on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, led by the KKAC Organization, a farming organization focusing its efforts on promoting land ownership for marginalized groups, in partnership with the Southeastern Improvement Association. The workshop will share essential resources to support farmers from the USDA, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and other organizations.

This free workshop takes place from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cooperative Extension Offices, located at 721 Foster Street in downtown Durham. Lunch will be provided. Parking is free in the parking lot and on the street near the building. The meeting will be accessible virtually via Microsoft Teams. Those who want to attend virtually should email Sonja Bloodworth at seimprovementassoc@gmail.com or Tawana Burns at outreach.seia@gmail.com to obtain login information.

Historically underserved farmers and landowners are encouraged to attend. The USDA defines historically underserved farmers as "” beginning farmers (less than 10 years), farmers with limited resources, women, and/or socially disadvantaged based on race or ethnicity.

Participants do not have to live in Durham County to attend this workshop. Farmers and landowners from the broader Triangle region and beyond are welcome to attend to learn how to protect their farm and future.

"Farmers deserve to get the best information about how to grow their agricultural enterprises," said Donna Rewalt, County Extension Director. "We are pleased to be a host site for this effort in partnership with the USDA and KKAC to better connect our farmers and landowners with essential resources that will aid in their success."
