Durham County to Recognize Good Friday Holiday

Durham, N.C. – Durham County Government will close most offices in recognition of the Good Friday holiday on Friday, April 3, 2026. All offices will reopen with normal hours of operation on Monday, April 6.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on Friday, April 3. Durham County residents with a current 2025-26 solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County’s convenience sites on Saturday, April 4, during normal business hours.
Residents should be reminded that construction to upgrade and modernize the Redwood Convenience Site, located at 100 Electra Road, is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. The site will be closed to the public beginning April 1 and will remain closed until renovations are complete.
Roadside Recycling Collection
The Durham County roadside recycling will maintain the same schedule the week of Good Friday. All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup to avoid a missed collection.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations will be closed for the spring holiday from Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5. All locations will reopen with regular hours of operation on Monday, April 6.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoPH) will follow the Durham County Government Good Friday holiday closing schedule and be closed on April 3. Public Health offices will reopen with normal business hours on Monday, April 6.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health’s response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices on Friday, April 3, for Good Friday.
While offices are closed for the holiday, residents should call 919-560-4600 to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect. An on-call social worker will be notified. On Monday, April 6, DSS offices will reopen with normal hours.

Durham County Sheriff
The Durham County Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division will be closed on April 3 and will reopen on April 6. The Sheriff’s Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
The Durham County Cooperative Extension will close on Monday, April 3, for the Good Friday holiday and reopen on Monday, April 6, with normal business hours. Extension programming scheduled for Fridays, such as Welcome Baby’s Giving Closet, will not be held.
During the holiday closure, the public may drop off soil sample boxes and pick up sample supplies from the outside station located in the blue box to the right of the Extension building at 721 Foster St.
