Durham County Names Dana Conners as Library Director

November 14, 2025

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Dana Conners as the new director of the Durham County Library, effective January 5, 2026. Following a nationwide search, Conners was selected for her leadership, experience, and thoughtful vision for public libraries.

With more than 30 years of experience in public libraries across North Carolina and Texas, Conners has held leadership roles in systems serving mid-sized and large communities, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, and New Hanover Counties. She also served as assistant director of public services at the Austin Public Library in Austin, Texas. Conners’ work has included new library openings, long-range planning, and collaborative partnerships that expand access to resources and support lifelong learning.

“Dana’s experience, strategic focus, and commitment to community service make her well-suited to lead Durham County Library into its next chapter,” said Assistant County Manager Joanne Pierce.

As Library Director, Conners will oversee library operations, including strategic planning, programming, staff development, and partnerships that promote equitable access to information and educational opportunities.

"I am thrilled to join Durham County Library and look forward to working with the community to encourage discovery, connect people, and lead in literacy together," said Conners.

The Durham County Library system includes seven locations that serve residents through collections, programs, and digital resources.
