Durham County BOCC Seeks Community Input on FY 26-27 Budget Priorities

March 9, 2026

Durham, N.C. – Durham County residents are invited to give their feedback on budget priorities as staff, leadership, and the Durham Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) develop the Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget. Community members can make their voices heard by completing the annual Resident Budget Survey available now until Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Public participation plays an essential role in the budgeting development process and is key to deciding Durham County's operational, personnel, and capital spending. The FY 2026-2027 Resident Budget Survey offers a simple and convenient way for residents to voice their budget concerns, needs, and priorities. Respondents are asked to rank various funding priorities from most to least important. The survey also includes an open-ended section where residents can share additional thoughts on any issue that matters to them.

The annual survey is open to all, including local business owners. Find it here – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XB8J5WH.

Durham County Budget and Management staff will present the responses to the survey to the BOCC to guide their decision-making as they set the priorities for the FY 26-27 budget. The input gathered from survey-takers will give staff, management, and the BOCC an understanding of what is and is not a budget priority to residents. Survey responses will also be shared publicly through an online dashboard available on the Durham County Budget and Management Services webpage.

Residents are encouraged to take note of the following key dates in the County’s annual budget ordinance adoption process:
