Deputy Manager Jones, Recap of 2024 Highlight Latest “In Touch with Durham County”

February 3, 2025

Durham, N.C. - The February 2025 edition of the "In Touch with Durham County" show from the Durham County Public Information Office is here! Our goal each month is to have great conversations with our Durham County staff, and community partners so that we can share valuable information about our programs and services.

On the latest episode, our host Durham County Chief Communications Officer Deborah Craig-Ray introduces the community to Deputy County Manager Maurice Jones, who joins us for the first time on ITWDC! We will also take a bit to look back at the events and guests from 2024!

The show is available to watch on the DCo YouTube channel (subscribe here); as well as on the Durham County Government website and the Durham Television Network.

Jones was appointed Deputy County Manager for External Affairs in 2022. Prior to coming to Durham County, Jones worked as Town Manager for the Town of Chapel Hill, the City of Charlottesville, he was the Director of Development for the Miller Center at the University of Virginia, Director of Communications for the City of Charlottesville, as well as a television journalist. He will talk about his journey, and the work he now does in our county.

In segment two, Craig-Ray will look back at the topics we highlighted in 2024. We had episodes featuring Tax Administrator Keyar Doyle, Elections Director Derek Bowens, Durham Sports Commission CEO Marcus Manning, Durham Cooperative Extension Director Donna Rewalt, Durham County Sheriff Clarence Birkhead, and Register of Deeds Sharon Davis.

Craig-Ray also talks about some of the big news of 2024, from the passing of a historic nearly $1 billion budget, departments relocating to new office spaces, a grand re-opening of the Stanford L. Warren Branch Library, the approval of the new Durham County Strategic Plan - DCo Forward 2029, the election of three new County Commissioners, and so much more! It was quite a year, and we are looking forward to an amazing 2025 providing residents with innovative, efficient, and world-class public service.

We hope you enjoy the show!
