County Solid Waste to Host Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

Dec. 7 event participants must have a current County-issued solid waste decal.

Durham, N.C. - Durham County residents are encouraged to properly dispose of hazardous waste products to reduce the amount of toxic chemicals entering our environment. The Solid Waste Division of Durham County General Services will offer an opportunity to safely drop off hazardous household products on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 8 a.m. until noon, at the Northern Durham Convenience Site.

The site, located at 11894 N. Roxboro Road, will accept the following at the upcoming Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) event:

Aerosol cans

Fire extinguisher

Batteries

Garden materials/fertilizers

Mercury

Pesticides

Pool chlorine and acid

Fuels

Thermometers

Paints

Fluorescent bulbs

In addition to protecting humans from harmful toxins, proper disposal of these items helps to protect wildlife and ecosystems which are important to the environment.

Items that will not be accepted at the HHW event include:

Commercially generated waste

Explosives

Ammunition

Medical waste

Radioactive materials

Unknown/unlabeled materials

Residents looking to participate in this event must have a current 2024-2025 solid waste decal issued by Durham County Government.
