Board of County Commissioners Regular Session Highlights from January 9th

Durham, N.C. - The Durham Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on Monday, January 9, 2023, in Regular Session. Meetings are held in person with a hybrid option, inside the BOCC Chambers, located at 200 E. Main Street on the second floor.
Acting Chair Heidi Carter called the meeting to order at 7 p.m.
All attendees were led by Carter in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

DCo Public Health COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Hours - The COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Durham County Department of Public Health, 414 E. Main St., has the following hours to get your free vaccination: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Appointments and walk-ins welcome. National Opioid Settlement Survey - Durham residents, we need you! Business and Personal Property Listing Forms - The Durham County 2023 annual tax listing forms will be mailed in early- to mid-January. Additionally, the Durham County Board of Commissioners has extended the regular listing period an additional month for 2023 to run through February 28, 2023. To be timely, listing forms should be returned to Durham County Tax Administration by February 28, 2023. Call 919-560-0300 for additional information.
LIHR Open Until March 31 - The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program is open for all eligible Durham County residents to apply. Residents can call 919-560-8192 to make a virtual appointment with a Department of Social Services LIEAP Specialists or apply online at: https://epass.nc.gov. The LIEAP Program ends March 31, 2023.
Parent & Family Advocacy and Support Training (PFAST) - Join the Durham County Cooperative Extension for a free virtual 8-week online course to help parents navigate the public school system. Stay Up to Date with New Durham Comprehensive Plan - Durham is working on a new Comprehensive Plan, a long-range vision for our community! The Comprehensive Plan decides what can be built where in Durham. It decides what size and kind of homes can be built in what part of the City and County, where schools and businesses can be built, and where streets can run through. Our current plan is nearly 13 years old and Durham has seen a lot of change in that time, that change has benefited some residents while others have been negatively impacted. Most DCo Offices Close for MLK Jr. Day - Durham County Government will close most of its offices on Monday, January 16 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Nonprofit Grant Agreement Approval of $42,000 for Durham Congregations in Action to Operate a Food Security Microgrant Program
Budget Amendment No.23BCC00054 and Capital Project Amendment No.23CPA00013 Appropriating $349,810.00 of Sewer Utility Enterprise Fund's Unspent Restricted System Development Fee Funds and Transferring Those Funds to the HUB RTP Sanitary Sewer and Reclaimed Water Extension Project (SE058) to Cover the Cost of System Improvements and Project Cost Increases, as well as Authorize the County Manager to Execute a Contract Change Order with Pipeline Utilities, Inc., Increasing the Contract by $349,810.

Public Hearing
The Board held a public hearing to consider a Resolution requesting the North Carolina Department of Transportation Designate a Certain Portion of North Carolina Highway 751 and Cameron Boulevard from Kerley Road to Duke University Road and to be named Coach K Highway, in Honor of Coach Michael William Krzyzewski. Katie Lipe, Duke University, Assistant Director Duke-State Relations spoke during the Public Hearing presentation. Commissioner Nida Allam read the resolution. Following video salutes from Chair Howerton and Vice Chair Jacobs and comments from Commissioners, Board voted to approve the resolution unanimously and forward to the NCDOT.
