Durham, N.C. – The Durham Planning & Development Department (formerly City-County Planning Department) is excited to announce that we are taking applications for Planning Academy! The Fall 2025 Academy will be held October 25, 2025 and November 1, 2025. The Planning Academy Application is now open and can be found here in English and here in Spanish. The application window is open until Friday, September 26, 2025.

The Fall 2025 Planning Academy is a FREE, interactive course that aims to empower and provide residents with the tools and knowledge they need to participate in Durham’s Planning processes. Durham Planning Academy is a two-day event with the first day being on Saturday, October 25th and the second day being on Saturday November 1st. Both sessions will run from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (with a light breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided). Participants can request Spanish language interpretation on the application form. This service will be provided at no cost. 

Participants will be selected with a focus on bringing together a diversity of perspectives, identities, and lived experiences to foster an environment of learning from each other as well as from presenters. This academy will accommodate approximately 40 participants and applicants who are selected to participate will be notified beginning Monday, October 6, 2025.
