Durham DSS Presents the Aging Gracefully Resource Fair to Get Durham Residents Proactive About Aging

Save the Date
June 12, 2025

Durham, NC--- The Aging & Adult Services Division of Durham County Department of Social Services will present the Aging Gracefully Resource Fair, Thursday, June 12, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Human Services Building, 414 E. Main Street in downtown Durham.

The demographics show that Durham is an aging community. Some 22 % of Durham County’s population is the Baby Boomer generation. In fact, all Baby Boomers in Durham will reach retirement age withing the next 10 years. The N.C. Office of State Budget and Management estimates that the community will have more residents over the age of 65 than children under 18 within the next decade.
One of the recurring issues that happens within Durham County’s Aging & Adult Services division are the “emergency clients”. They are the clients that find themselves as “sudden caregivers” of parents and spouses, without any idea of what to do next.

The Aging Gracefully Resource Fair will help to solve that problem of “not knowing what to do next” by providing a wealth of information via vendors through face-to-face communication, printed materials, and subject specific seminars presented by professionals from across the Triangle area. The goal is for the public visiting the Fair to have the opportunity to become educated on several subjects, such as: In-Home health care, Medicare, Dementia /Alzheimer Services, Exercise, Nutrition, Estate Planning and more.

“My Aging and Adult Services team have put together a comprehensive resource fair to assist our community in being proactive as they age here in Durham. We’re very excited for the positive impact this fair will have,” states Maggie Clapp, Director of Durham County Social Services.
