Historic Preservation Commission
What We Do
The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) holds quasi-judicial public hearings to determine whether requested changes to the exterior of historic district or landmark properties are appropriate by State law, local ordinance and historic preservation plans for the districts.
The HPC is comprised of nine members, four of which are appointed by the Durham City Council and the remaining appointed by the Durham County Board of Commissioners. Members serve without compensation and must live within the corporate city limits. City and County taxes must not reflect any delinquency at the time of submission of the application.
