What We Do

The EMS Peer Review Committee required by N.C.G.S. 131E-155 and 10A NCAC13P .0408, is responsible for providing clinical oversight to the Durham County EMS System, including evaluation of patient care data, utilization of data to recommend EMS continuing education programs, reviewing patient care protocols and making recommendations to the medical director, assuring due process for EMS personnel subject to suspension or other disciplinary action by the Medical Director, and establishing or improving EMS system performance improvement guidelines.

The committee consists of specified representatives of EMS stakeholder agencies, as well as a member of the Board of County Commissioners, the County Manager or his designee, the Director of Public Health or her designee, the Durham County Sheriff or his designee, a law enforcement officer designated by the Chief of the Durham Police Department, and two citizens at large, who shall be appointed by the chair of the Board of County Commissioners.
