Durham Sports Commission
What We Do
The Durham Sports Commission (DSC) is a collaboration of the City of Durham, the County of Durham, the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB). Established in 2016, the DSC’s mission is to provide leadership for sports-based initiatives and create positive economic impact and quality of life in Durham and the surrounding region. To view the Durham Sports Commission's new web page, please visit durhamncsports.com.
The DSC is governed by an independent, 9-member board of directors appointed by the City of Durham (3 seats), the County of Durham (3 seats) and the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce (3 seats). The DSC is operated by DCVB through an Interlocal Agreement between the city, the county, and DCVB.
The appointing bodies seek owners, general managers or other individuals with senior level decision-making authority for Durham-based businesses and organizations to serve on the DSC board. Additionally, board members should have expertise in sports, fund raising, business or related areas and have the desire, time and expertise to dedicate to the DSC.
Initial appointments to the inaugural board had staggered terms with each body appointing one individual to a one-year term, one individual to a two-year term and one individual to a three-year term.
