Grants Administered by Durham County

Community Grant Opportunities


Depending on the availability of funding, Durham County periodically solicits proposals from community nonprofit organizations for consideration for grant awards. This page provides information on grant programs administered by the County, as well as information as to any current open Requests for Proposals or other grant opportunities offered by the County. Any selected grant recipients must be approved by the Durham County Board of Commissioners prior to the issuance of a formal grant award.

Durham County Youth Services Grant Program - FY 2026-2027 

Program Information

Durham County is pleased to announce the launch of the Youth Services Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2026-2027. This competitive microgrant supports community nonprofit organizations that enrich the lives of youth, and promote their social, emotional, mental, and physical health.  

With over 73,000 youth in Durham County, the health, well-being, and success of young people is essential to the strength and growth of our community. Durham County has made significant investments in programs and services aimed at supporting our youth, with over 15 individual programs across numerous departments promoting education, workforce development, violence reduction, crime prevention, enrichment, and physical, social-emotional, and mental health.  

Grant Details 

  • Funding Amount: $500,000   

  • Award will Range: $40,000- $50,000 

  • Anticipated Number of Awards Provided: 10-12   

  • Funding Period:12 months 

 Eligibility 

  • Organizational Status: Applicants must be nonprofit organizations with an active 501(c)(3) status or community-based groups with a fiscal sponsor that has an active 501(c)(3) status.  

  • Service Area: Proposed projects must take place in, and directly benefit, communities withing Durham County.  

  • Youth Impact: Proposed projects must serve youths aged 4-24 in Durham County and can focus on one or more of three eligible project categories: (I) Youth Social-Emotional and Mental Health Services, (II) Youth Enrichment and Recreational Activities or (III) Youth Academic Supports.

American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grants

In March 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act, a $1.9 trillion public investment aimed to bolstering the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Included within ARPA was a $350 billion appropriation for the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CSLFRF or SLFRF), which provided resources for State, local, territorial, and tribal governments to address the continued impacts of the pandemic on the economy, public health, state and local governments, schools, businesses, and individuals. From this appropriation, Durham County received $62,445,275, which the Board of County Commissioners allocated through grants and contracts to support a broad range of essential community needs.
