Durham County

Community Grant Opportunities

Depending on the availability of funding, Durham County periodically solicits proposals from community nonprofit organizations for consideration for grant awards. This page provides information on grant programs administered by the County, as well as information as to any current open Requests for Proposals or other grant opportunities offered by the County. Any selected grant recipients must be approved by the Durham County Board of Commissioners prior to the issuance of a formal grant award.

American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Grants

In March 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act, a $1.9 trillion public investment aimed to bolstering the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Included within ARPA was a $350 billion appropriation for the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund (CSLFRF or SLFRF), which provided resources for State, local, territorial, and tribal governments to address the continued impacts of the pandemic on the economy, public health, state and local governments, schools, businesses, and individuals. From this appropriation, Durham County received $62,445,275, which the Board of County Commissioners allocated through grants and contracts to support a broad range of essential community needs.

As part of the process for obligating ARPA funding, the County conducted three grant competitions through Requests for Proposals:

All awards under all three RFPs were made prior to the December 31, 2024 ARPA obligation deadline. For further information on the above grant programs, as well as information on the County’s other ARPA-funded initiatives, please visit the County’s ARPA webpage.

Current Durham County Nonprofit Grant Opportunities

At the current time, Durham County does not have any open Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for grant awards to be issued to local nonprofits or other organizations. The County will update the information on this page when any new Requests for Proposals for grants or subgrants are issued.

Any questions about County Grant RFPs or other matters related to County grants issued to local nonprofits can be directed to the County Grants Administrator.
