Mission:
The Supplier Diversity program aims to increase the participation of minority and women-owned business enterprises in Durham County, promoting equity and inclusion throughout our business practices and meeting the aspirational goal of 25% spending with those certified as historically underutilized businesses.
Vision:
We aspire to serve as a catalyst for growth and development for minority and women-owned business enterprises, connecting MWBE partners to opportunities that will change outcomes, empower businesses, and promote economic growth in Durham County and beyond.
Strategic Priorities:
- Engagement - refers to educating departments and actively involving MWBEs in government contracts, supplier relationships, and economic opportunities. It aims to foster collaboration, promote inclusion, and create a level playing field for diverse businesses.
- Development - focuses on supporting the growth and capacity-building of minority and women-owned businesses. It includes providing resources, training, mentorship, and access to capital to help these businesses thrive and compete effectively in the marketplace. The goal is to enhance their sustainability and economic impact.
- Opportunity - refers to creating equitable access for MWBEs to participate in government contracts, procurement, and economic activities. It aims to level the playing field and promote inclusion.
- Compliance - involves adhering to the requirements set forth by MWBE programs. It ensures that contractors and departments meet participation goals for minority and women-owned businesses in County contracting. Compliance includes tracking spending, reporting, and following guidelines to achieve MWBE utilization targets.
