Vital Record Services
Birth/Marriage/Death Certificates: Can be obtained via online request or by mail. To submit a request online click "Online Vital Records Request". Certified copies are $10.00 per copy; payable by cash, money order, debit or credit card. You will need to provide a photocopy of your ID and proof of relationship (if applicable).
Marriage License: To obtain a marriage license, please click "Apply On-Line for Marriage License" to complete application and schedule an appointment.
Notary Oaths: Those who have successfully completed the notary class and received notification of appointment from the Secretary of State, should click "Booking an In-Person Appointment". This office does not notarize outside documents.
Military Documents (DD-214): To obtain a copy of your DD-214, please click "Booking an In-person Appointment".
Out-of-County Birth/Death: Births or Deaths that occurred in the state of North Carolina, but in a county other than Durham, must be requested in person. No online services are available for out-of-county births and deaths. Click "Booking an In-Person Appointment".

The mission of the Register of Deeds is to act as legal custodian of all land titles and all land transaction documents in Durham County. We will provide a level of service to the citizens, legal professionals, and other office users that is exemplary and state of the art for the industry. As legal custodian of land transactions and other miscellaneous documents, the Register of Deeds office files and records deeds, deeds of trust, uniform commercial codes (UCCs), corporations, assumed names, military records, and other legal papers; registers delayed birth records and issues marriage licenses; and administers the oath to notaries public. The Register of Deeds has the responsibility of indexing and cross indexing all documents filed.
